Business Development Director

POSITION: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, WEST COAST

We are experiencing substantial growth in our backlog, and seek multiple strong additions to our team. The position of Business Development Director will be responsible for leading all aspects of marketing and business development for Alta Environmental on the West Coast, including strategic planning, market research, opportunity development, customer calls and client relationship-building, market penetration, trade shows, bid and proposal activities, closing sales and ongoing client satisfaction. They will work closely with Operations Management to identify client needs and develop profitable solutions to fulfill these needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and evaluate market opportunities and find specific project opportunities for Alta, as well as cross-division opportunities that may arise. The company has three distinct business units that have complementary services: Assessment & Remediation, Building Sciences, and Environmental.
  • Establish and build close client relationships, based on mutual c stair
  • Develop and maintain close relations with key client decision-makers through direct, face-to-face contact, as well as periodic entertaining. Introduce Alta senior management to the key current and future client decision-makers.
  • Lead, organize and participate in sales efforts such as giving presentations, submittal of qualifications and proposals, and lead contract negotiations and closings on opportunities for Alta. Develop, implement and maintain key account and proposal capture plan strategies to place Alta in a preferred or sole-source bidding position, and to assure that Alta has an opportunity to propose on all work for which we are qualified.
  • Lead the development of strategic and tactical sales plans to support financial objectives. Prepare executive summaries of each proposal in advance of the proposal kickoff, reflecting the client’s proposal evaluation criteria and the capabilities of the competition.
  • Identify capabilities, trends and performance of Alta competitors.
  • As part of Alta’s strategic and business plan activity, develop market analysis and business forecasts, and recommend strategy and action. Monitor and report significant business and technological trends.
  • Maintain client information, including contact information and organization charts, in Alta’s Salesforce.com CRM.
  • Obtain a client debriefing on all client submittals, and prepare a post mortem report in a timely manner so that future proposals can benefit from the lessons learned.
  • Comply with all Alta’s operating guidelines, standards, Code of Conduct and policies. Ensure that appearance, sales campaigns, and entertainment meet Alta’s high standards and are consistent with Alta policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are necessary to perform this job successfully.

  • Strong business development track record in the environmental consulting and engineering business in California and other states on the West Coast.
  • Strong track record securing and closing on opportunities.
  • Ability to write proposals and negotiate and review contracts.
  • Able to accomplish responsibilities within the established budget consistent with the philosophies and policies of Alta.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including guiding and mentoring others on the team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and organizational skills.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a business-related, engineering or science field.
  • Minimum of ten years business development experience in the environmental consulting and engineering field in California and surrounding states.
