SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

January 2, 2018

Alta Environmental (Alta) defines Environmental Sustainability as operating in a manner that does not permanently deplete or damage resources and ensures the long-term ability for the planet to sustain a diverse and thriving ecosystem.

NV5|Alta Environmental Sustainability Policy:

NV5|Alta Environmental and its corporate partner, NV5 Global, is committed to environmentally as well as socially sustainable practices, whether they are recommended to clients or implemented within internal operations. While assisting clients in complying with environmental policies, regulations and changes associated with their operations, NV5|Alta provides services and recommendations that incorporate sustainable policies, procedures, and equipment and helps facilities achieve their sustainability goals and obtain certifications. In addition to providing environmental and sustainability consulting services to our clients, NV5|Alta Environmental implements sustainable policies and procedures throughout it’s own operations.

NV5|Alta implements the Environmental Sustainability Policy through practice of the following:
  • Employee telecommuting opportunities, including:
    • Provision of laptop computers for task completion at work sites and home;
    • Cell phone reimbursement policies for designated employees; and
    • Video and teleconferencing for internal and client meetings.
  • Solid waste reduction practices including:
    •  Segregation of waste and recyclable materials in Alta offices and field operations;
    • Electronic document contracts, invoicing, signing and document delivery; and
    • Elimination of disposable plates and utensils in office.
  • Adjustment of office workstations and appliances to reduce energy use;
  • Establishment of multiple offices near employee residences and client facilities to reduce commute distances;
  • Use of a company-owned plug-in electric vehicle for commuting between the Alta offices to reduce carbon footprint;
  • Carpooling to client meetings and site visits/inspections when applicable;
  • Green-product purchasing program for in-house cleaning and office supplies;
  • Use of LED lighting and natural light to maximize lighting efficiency;
  • Supporting certification of employees in recognized sustainability programs such as LEED and ENVISION Sustainability Professional (ENV SP).
  • Regular meetings of NV5|Alta Sustainability Taskforce. This Taskforce promotes employee ownership and tracking of recycling, energy management, carbon reduction, and waste management. Tracking measures include identification and implementation of metrics to measure progress. Additional Sustainability program measures considered by the Taskforce include carbon offsets, corporate social responsibility program participation, including Global Reporting Initiative, Carbon Disclosure Project, or other comparable certification protocols appropriate for small businesses.
  • Monitoring and support of US Zero Waste Business Council Certification Program
  • Wellness challenges, like Fitbit steps competitions, held frequently within offices;
  • Fruit and other healthy snacks provided to employees;
  • Carefully managing food ordered for meetings. Facilitate consumption of excess food by coordinating with Food Finders, 3744 N. Industry Avenue, Suite 401, Lakewood (562) 283-1400. Food Finders will retrieve left over food and deliver to shelters;
  • Recycling of used office equipment and furniture to charities and other non-profit organizations, like WomenShelter of Long Beach (WSLB).

As NV5|Alta implements and identifies additional Sustainability measures and goals, annual progress will be reported and made available upon request.
