The completion of the San Vicente Dam Raise project comes at a critical time as California’s concerns around water shortages grow. Through the San Diego County Water Authority’s $1.5 billion Emergency Storage Project, the expansion of dam capacity is anticipated to supply a portion of that need.
Alta is proud to have been a part of this historic project. In 2010 Alta was approached with a challenge: find a way to permit an aggregate facility and ready mix plant which will be used to process the material mined from the hillsides at the site and produce the concrete that will be used in the roller-compacted concrete for the dam.
While the site was temporary, the permitting required that the operation meet the same standards as a permanent facility with the associated controls and emission requirements. Working with the plant operator and the San Diego Air Pollution Control District, Alta helped the project to meet the strict regulatory requirements of the agency and obtained the important production level needed to meet the demanding project schedule.
With over 20 years of experience, Alta used our depth of knowledge of construction materials operations and the local and federal regulatory requirements to take a challenging project and find workable solutions. The recent dedication celebration following completion of the San Vicente Dam Rise project provided an opportunity to recognize this major accomplishment.
