Envision Sustainability at Alta

6/19/2017

Envision
Two consultants from Alta’s Environmental Health and Safety team, Kimba Anderson and Michael Morrison, have earned credentials as Envision Sustainability Professionals (ENV S.P.) and Alta is now an Envision Qualified Company. Envision is a tool for developing sustainable infrastructure projects through each step from the planning stages to completion. The tool can be used by anyone for free to self-assess sustainability progress or developers can submit evidence of their sustainability practices to Envision to be verified and possibly earn awards determined by the number of credits earned by the project. An award from Envision shows that the project developers have taken a comprehensive and holistic approach to achieving sustainability.

The ENV S.P. is trained to help infrastructure developers plan, design, construct, and operate their projects using sustainable practices, tools, resources, and materials. An ENV S.P. identifies for which credits within the rating system the project could qualify and advises project planners on how to achieve those credits. They keep track of the various work done towards those credits – from meeting minutes to show community and stakeholder involvement to material life-cycle calculations to operating plans – and submits them to the Envision verifier for credit. The verifier may have a different opinion on the level of credit earned and the ENV S.P. then has the opportunity to submit further materials as evidence of higher credit. The ENV S.P. should be involved with the project from start to completion in order to track all the verification materials and make sure all opportunities to earn credits are addressed.
