Alta Environmental has secured over $1.8 million in grant funds for various clients through the Carl Moyer Grant Program, which aims to reduce the amount of particulate matter in the air and improve overall air quality. Administered through the South Coast Air Quality Management District these funds are used toward specific projects that will provide cleaner engines and equipment, reducing emissions.
“Our clients are eager to do their part and help meet the state’s clean air commitments,” said Kimba Spencer, senior associate consultant for Alta Environmental’s Air Resources Division. “Construction companies have used our assistance to apply for these grant funds and in the end both businesses and the environment benefit, so it’s a win-win for everybody.”
Grant recipients include constructions companies who will use the funds to replace equipment engines and reduce emissions below the regulatory limits. The recipients this year include: T&W Parks Construction, Inc., awarded $1.3 million to repower construction equipment; North County Sand & Gravel, awarded $432,000 to repower various construction equipment; and Earth Tek Engineering Corp., awarded $121,000 to repower a wheel tractor-scraper.
Over the past 10 years, Alta Environmental has secured approximately $100 million in grant funding for clients. These funds have been used toward a variety of projects including off-road construction machinery. In 2009, Alta assisted Pacific Tugboat to repower three engines on one of their tugboats. In 2006, Alta helped to secure over $1.4 million in grant funds for Jagur Tractor, who repowered six two-engine wheel tractor-scrapers. Through the Carl Moyer Program these projects have helped contribute to the reduction of 150,000 tons of ozone precursors and 6,300 tons of particulate.
