Ontario International Airport Authority Selects Alta Environmental for Air Quality Improvement Plan8/24/2018
![]() Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) selected Alta Environmental to develop the Airport’s Air Quality Improvement Plan. As directed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), each commercial airport within the district will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with an accompanying Air Quality Improvement Plan as an implementation strategy intended to help the air basin achieve air quality objectives. The SCAQMD 2016 Basin Wide Air Quality Management Plan included facility-based mobile source control measures, incorporating a measure directed toward commercial airports. Over the past two years, SCAQMD and aviation industry stakeholders have worked to develop a path forward and in May 2018, the SCAQMD Governing Board voted to approve the MOU/AQIP approach. The AQIP/MOU approach was selected in order to obtain emission reduction commitments while still allowing for the flexibility to accommodate each airports unique features and operations. ![]() Alta has been supporting OIAA during this process and will develop the Airport Air Quality Improvement Plan which will provide an inventory of current and projected future emissions, plus a technical framework to select, implement, and track measures aimed at reducing emissions of criteria pollutants, primarily oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
